The lace trend is one that we are seeing more and more of. On the runways, at lunch, a night out. The amazing thing about lace is that it is wearable for many different occasions. It's great day to night look. Lace makes for a delicate and feminine subtle radiance. There a few things to remember to achieve this lady like look!

When choosing your lace attire, opt for a sturdier lace. This simply means to stay away from stretchy lace, as this can cheapen your style. I tend to gravitate towards a wider pattern as well. I think the wider the pattern, the more versatile it is. Making it wearable for all ages and body types.

For a day time outfit, go with a lace skirt. Traditionally stick to black or white lace. Keep your top simple when pairing with a skirt. Chose an opposing colors like white and black. Pastel can work as well. An easy accessory to put with the lace skirt is a long pearl necklace. These are easy to find and affordable now that faux pearls are in! Try a single or double strand!

Moving from casual to a more dressy outing, you can branch out to an all lace dress. For summer, I'm a big fan of the cream colored lace dress. This statement look is romantic and perfect for a whimsical summer eve! Traditionally these dress are made with a solid underlay of fabric, but for the more experienced fashionistas out there, chose to add a slip on the bottom and a sexy bra or corset as your top. When going for a daring look such as this, make sure your hem line is a little longer or the cut is more relaxed.

Try peacock feather earrings as a hot trend!

Black Pump - Many offices require some sort of black shoe for women at work. Opt for the sexy peep toe or a slight pop of color on the heel. Black heels also work well for the less than casual dinner party you may be attending. Slip on your classics when wearing neutral shades and tones. A pair of black heels can keep your summer look classy, crisp, and pulled together!

The LBD or LBR - Possibly the simplest of the summer looks to pull of is your ever faithful little black dress. The most recent and updated version of the LBD has become the LBR. Little Black Romper! Either of these can be paired with bright jewelry such as emerald tones. Another way to slightly add color is by wrapping a skinny bright belt around either the LBD or the LBR.

It has officially arrived...SUMMER! This means school is out, sun tans are in and white is a must have color! Primarily more of a summer color, it brings connotations of breezy days, and warm summer nights! There are so many options when it comes to the color. Here are a few ways you can turn up the heat and sizzle in white!

White tops - These are great if you are a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl or a ruffle blouse kind of girl. If you are pairing a plain white tee with jeans or jean shorts, pair it with an oversized necklace that has pops of color! OR opt for a long chain necklace with a single large charm at the end. If something a little fancier is more your style, pair your white embellished top with a colorful skirt or printed pair of shorts. Give your black pencil skirt a break and be bold in a bright canary yellow tulip skirt! Choose the patterned short with gladiator sandals and a silk white or cream top.

White pants - Using white pants as a base is a great way to show off the pastels, gold and neons that have been hiding in your closet for the past 8 months. If you have fair skin, try pairing your white pants with a pastel or bright primary color such as a kelly green. For the tan or darker skin tone, dare to wear the neon colors! These have made a come back from the 80's but are a great way to look fresh and funky in our warm summer months. White skinnys can be paired with a shear tunic for a chic look! (I adore designers such as Milly and Tibi because of their prints and mod design aspects) White trouser pants can be worn in an office environment and paired with almost any blouse. If you are going for a more every - day look, roll the bottom of your jeans, throw on your Tory Burch flats and an off the shoulder cotton top. To achieve a "Summer in the Hamptons" look, don't hesitate to put your pants AND white top together!

White scarves - If you are someone who shies away from this neutral color, use white as an accent color with a linen scarf. Opt for a Perky Pony Tail as the humidity sets in. Tease your roots for a sexy bed head look and to add volume. This can be great for short or long hair. If you hair is longer, opt for the higher ponytail. This pulled back look is great when wearing a large or high collar.

The Bob is back! Give this classic look a slight tweak by going asymmetrical. Make one side slightly longer than the other. Add volume with layers or stick to one length. This is a great cut that can be tailored to your lifestyle and style. Punky with skinny jeans and an off-the-shoulder top or sophisticated in a printed wrap dress!

If you prefer longer locks, throw some layers in! This will add definition to your hair. Layers make for a great looking ponytail! When you pull back layers, it makes a piecy, textured look. The layers also look great for pulling your hair half up and out of your face. If you have longer hair, avoid high necklines. We've come a long way since Apple Red as the basic nail polish color. Now, we have everything from shimmer to animal print nails to choose from. Changing your nail polish is a great way to accessorize and add some oomph to your outfit. So, what does your nail color say about you?

Fire-Engine Red: You're sassy, self-assured, and not afraid to be dramatic. Bright red is a bold, look-at-me color that is a symbol for passion, fire, and confidence. You love the spotlight, and you take charge of situations.

Hot Pink: You're spunky and energetic. Pink is a color that is associated specifically with women, and hot pink lets you show your spunk and spice.

Pale Pink: Painting your nails pale pink is a subtle expression. You are likely quiet, or at least you don't want to stand out, and youthful. Pale pink is not significantly different from the color of your nails (if you're caucasian), but you still want to show your soft side.

Beat that Southern Heat

Warm weather and sunshine are two of my favorite things! Even so, dressing for the heat can be tricky. The warmer it gets down South, the more the humidity increases, makes you re-think your wardrobe options. Many places it is too hot to throw on the standard jeans and a t-shirt. Here are some tips I use when I pick out clothes to stay cool and try not to get too sweaty during the summer months.

Wear shorts or Capri pants instead of long pants.

It seems like a no-brainer, less fabric equals less heat, but sometimes its hard to remember until after you’ve already left the house

Wear summer dresses.
Sundresses are my favorite things to wear in the summer. I think they are cooler than anything else because there is no waste-band.Choose light fabrics and loose fits.

In tops choose shirts made of light fabrics like cotton to fight the heat. Looser fitting clothes will also help you stay cool.

When its really hot, wear a tank top.

Tank tops are great because they don’t shoe sweat stains as much as regular shirts. Although when it’s hot it is normal to sweat and it is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Wear a sun hat and sunglasses.

These will also protect you from the sun and make you feel cool while you look cool.

Sky High Fashion

Let's face it, shoes can make or break an outfit! You can take a casual ensemble and turn it into something sexy in an instant with a great pair of heels. Heels can be a woman's secret weapon to the illusion of mile long legs. The question I find myself asking is, 'the higher, the better?' I think the blisters on my feet at the end of the day answer for themselves. Personally, I adore a sky high heel. I also think there is a time and a place for them. The work place isn't always appropriate. Not to mention a shorter heel can actually accentuate your calves just as well than your 4"ers! Wearing lower heels in the work place is a classy way to keep things professional.

Before you begin your day, asses your terrain. If you are walking on cobblestone or walking all over town...don't torture yourself. If you are at a desk all day or in an office, a higher heel can be appropriate. Being on the shorter side, I always find myself want to put on something with height. You can find me in the produce isle of the grocery store in a pair of wedges. There is also a time to realize that some outfits just need flats!

Heels can even put insecurities to rest! If you are slightly insecure about your thighs, it's best to stick to a 2"-3" heel, which will compel you to keep your thighs tensed. Higher heels put more pressure on your calves, but a lower heel will keep your thighs look fit and trim! If you consider your foot size larger than average, a tall heel can make your feet look smaller. This is not to be taken to extremes, but a taller heel with a platform can work for you!

Lust for Lilly

As ladies of the south, we are all drawn to those vibrant colored dresses and the resort-ware attitudes that comes along with putting on a Lilly Pulitzer dress. Do you know how these beautiful and exotic printed dress came along? Here's a little history lesson!

Lilly and Peter Pulitzer were married in 1950 and the newlyweds ran straight to Palm Beach where they enjoyed the year round lush, tropical setting. After becoming terribly bored, Lilly decided that it was high time that she set out to try something new. What she settled on was selling fresh oranges from her husband's groves in Ft. Pierce, Florida. The orange business was very successful, and before long, Lilly was selling gift boxes of fruit. The only problem was that by the end of the day, her dresses were covered with splashes of fruit juice. It is said that necessity is the mother of invention, and from this aha! moment, a fashion empire would be born. The problem of the messy dresses was solved by having her dressmaker (how many young entrepreneurs have their own dressmaker?) whip up a few simple shift dresses in busy patterns colored just like tropical fruit juices.

Lilly Pulitzer was a woman who understood the power of special details; most of the patterns have her loopy signature hidden somewhere within them, and the dresses were finished with a customized hem lace bearing her name. Putting on a Lilly dress or skirt was like wearing your commitment to the good life, one filled with happy afternoons with children at the beach and cocktails on the terrace of the country club by night. It was more than just fashion – Lilly was a lifestyle. Indeed, the Lilly Pulitzer label has been worn by many well-heeled ladies, starting with those in Palm Beach, and then on to other preppy enclaves around the country.

With Easter just around the corner, the sky is slightly more blue, everything is in bloom and you can throw your tights to the back of the closet for next winter! The colors of your wardrobe get a little softer and you find your mood slightly uplifted. Time to venture into a girly trend, pastels!

Pastels and watercolors are a flirty way to launch your color palette into the Spring and Summer months. Wearing pastels is all about balance. Don't go overboard with the sweet look. Expand your options. A shear pastel top looks great with skinny jeans, or tucked into white shorts. If your are a little hesitant, try to accent your look with a light pink flower pin on your jacket. Another option is to pair your outfit with rose colored pumps. Almost appearing nude, you will be surprised how you can get away with this color! If you go for a pastel dress, pair with black accessories to offset. Black heels or a black clutch.

Those of you with fair skin tones...I know what you're thinking, "NO WAY!" Yes way! Lighter skin can still pull off pastels such as lavenders or sky blue. Especially if you have darker hair. Look at Anne Hathaway who doesn't shy away from the trend! Those with a darker complexion look brilliant in rosy pink, lilac and peach tones. Eye color can also determine the right pastel hue for your. Blue or green eyes, stick to sea foam green or light blue. It will be the perfect compliment.

What to Wear to A Wedding

One of the most fun, and also the most agonizing parts of being a wedding guest is figuring out what to wear. Even if the invitation clearly states the dress code, it can be tricky to find an appropriate dress. Here are my suggestions for what to wear to every type of spring wedding.

Women should wear bright, colorful sundresses to afternoon or outdoor weddings. However, the skirt of the dress shouldn't be too full to avoid mishaps if a breeze picks up. Flat shoes work best for outdoor weddings as heels tend to sink into the sand or grass. Slacks and a nice blouse or lightweight sweater work for spring weddings occurring at any time of the day. Or, pair a nice short-sleeved sweater with a long skirt featuring a floral pattern. Formal evening weddings require something fancier such as a cocktail dress. Black is best for black-tie events, but deep purples, blues and burgundy are nice choices for formal evening weddings. You can wear light pastel makeup, even neutral tones or bright colored lipstick or eyeshadow. If you dress up the eyes, leave the lips neutral or vice versa for a balanced look. And let's be honest....your sweetie never knows the wedding dress code.

Here are a few tips for your man's attire. Casual spring weddings call for a nice pair of khakis or slacks with a buttoned-up shirt or polo shirt. Colors can range from white to various shades or blue or other bright or pastel colors. Light-colored suits in lighter fabrics are nice for semiformal or formal spring weddings, as are slacks and a nice lightweight sweater. Ties are optional for semiformal occasions, but they should be adorned for formal weddings. Black-tie events always include tuxedos, no matter what the season.

After NY Fashion week wrapped up in February, it's clear that Marc Jacobs is just as hot as ever. Tassels & Fringe—Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Dior all seemed to have an Art Deco-meets-'70s moment with the re-imagining of huge, gorgeous tassel earrings and fringe necklaces. We like, and this is one we'll be wearing.

Clean & Architectural—Perhaps as a back-lash to all the mixed piled-on pearls, chains, and stones that continue to fill boutiques, Pamela Love, Giles & Brother, and other designers opted for super spare, clean, and almost architectural pieces. And for the OCD or easily distracted, the simplicity is nothing short of refreshing.

Plastics & Perspex—The trend toward really childlike, whimsical jewels with a '60s feel always has a place in our wardrobes. So, for spring, we were doubly excited when designers like Karen Walker and Marni turned out fun plastic-fantastic necklaces and wide perspex-like colored cuff bracelets.

Rose-Gold—In fashion, it's always a guessing game each season as to who in the metals will prevail: silver or gold? Well, for spring, the more exotic rose-gold is stealing center-stage, with a striking necklace by Eddie Borgo and a surprisingly sophisticated Michael Kors watch taking top honors on our spring/summer wish-list.

After this frigid Winter, I'm already counting down the days until I can pull out my pastels and throw my heavy coats and cashmere scarf to the back of my closet! Skin tones can sometimes be divided into seasons.

Who says you can't wear white after Labor Day? This lusciously stark color is actually just right for frigid temperatures, since it's so evocative of snow and Winter solitude. To wear Winter white, just be sure to choose textures—like leather, wool, and bouclé—that are undoubtedly wintery, rather than something like eyelet or linen that looks better suited to springtime. Also, don't be afraid to pair your whites with darker, high-contrast duds.

Here are a few tricks for you!

1. Dress for the season. If you're going to wear a white dress in winter, pair it with opaque black tights and shoes, or a dark cardigan on top, or even leggings underneath. No tank tops or sundresses allowed.

2. Mind your texture. A rich fabric makes all the difference when you're wearing winter white. How many of us know someone who has had or survived breast cancer? Breast Cancer knows no boundaries and is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers today. October is breast cancer awareness month. Here are a few facts you might not have known.

• Breast cancer is the leading cancer among American women and second only to lung cancer in cancer deaths. • More than two million women currently living in the U.S. have been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.

• All women are at risk for breast cancer. The two most important risk factors for breast cancer are being female and getting older. The risk of getting breast cancer increases as you age. Most breast cancers and breast cancer deaths occur in women aged 50 and older. Until more is known about preventing breast cancer, early detection and effective treatment offer the best defense against breast cancer mortality.

• Although rare, younger women can also get breast cancer. Just five percent of all breast cancers occur in women under age 40.

• About 85 percent of all women diagnosed with breast cancer DO NOT have a family history.

Alright Ladies...it's that time of year again. College football season! I applaud all those die hard fans, but some of us enjoy the cocktails and outfits more than the actual game. Let's be honest, figuring out what to wear and which tailgate to attend is an event in itself. Make sure you are tailgate ready this fall with all the appropriate attire!

Tips:

I know how happy many of you were to push those tights to the back of your drawer once the warmer weather was upon us. Free of wool, heavy overcoats, and unflattering snow boots! Summer attire in the workplace can be tricky. When the temperature rises, inhibitions plummet. Avoid the distractions and embarrassment that occur when employees wear attire that is too revealing or sends the message that their comfort is more important than their clients' business.

Follow the leader. Gage what middle management is wearing, and plan accordingly.

Be polished. Make sure your clothes are clean and pressed. Since lightweight fabrics tend to be sheer, check your reflection under bright lighting to make sure your undergarments don't show through. If your company allows open-toe or backless shoes, make sure your feet and toenails are clean and cared for.

Don’t Flash the Flesh. Women in all professions should know they're not advancing their careers when they wear revealing clothing. Short shorts, mini-skirts, tank tops and low-cut or sheer blouses may get you attention, but not necessarily the raise or promotion you want. When choosing what to wear, think Diane Sawyer or Condoleezza Rice, not Britney Spears or Paris Hilton.

Layer Light Fabrics. Stay cool in lightweight materials such as silk, cotton, linen, or summer-weight wool and cotton blends. Remember to dress in layers -- the difference in temperature between the outdoors and your air-conditioned office can be 30 degrees or more.

A Reoccurring and Flexible Fashion Statement

White jeans have been around for a while, though they tend to come and go from trendy to not-so-trendy. They seem to pop up every decade or so, but the statement they make is still the same and they remain a part of most wardrobes.

For years this color was not acceptable after Labor Day. Today they can be worn any time of year. White jeans can be worn in the winter with a sweater or in the summer with a light tank top. It is acceptable now to wear them any time or year or any place. They work well with any color top and any texture top. They can be dressed up or dressed down. For a dramatic effect these jeans can be paired with a black top and black boots. For a more dressed down a white t shirt with these jeans will give a more casual beach look.

Fashion styles come and go, but one that just seems to keep coming back is the notorious white jean. This color is back again and more popular than ever, especially with the wide array of styles that are available these days.

We all have women that our eyes glaze over at when we flip through our issue of People Magazine. Their clothes are always breathtaking and seem to convey their personality without even trying! They pair the most amazing and unexpected accessories together, all of which have been placed with perfection. Becoming a fashion icon might not take as much work as you think! There are many ways you can achieve this seemingly unreachable feat!

1. Knowing how to Dress is Key! Buy magazine such as Elle, InStyle, Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar. Get a sense of what you like and what could work in your every day life. This is different for everyone. Some women are able to express their vibrant personality and work, while others might be more fitted in a suit. Either situation, there is always a way to look glam no matter what!

2. Mix n' Match: It's OK to mix different styles. Preppy can be paired with subtle studded cuff if you're in the mood for a little edginess! Buy accessories that mix well with what you have. Don't over-do it! Less CAN be more. One over-sized item per outfit please! Don't do a chunky necklace and earrings that dangle to your shoulder. Stick with one!

4. As you get older, you might not want to admit it, but you probably swooned over things your mother wore when you were growing up. Think of what complemented her style and try to incorporate it into your own. I know that I personally owe much of my fashion sense to MY mother.

My forte for shopping has taken me through many a boutique. At the site of that "must have piece" my giddiness for the delicate chiffon petals on the perfect color top is always followed by a deep sigh and chest pain. The price of the top well exceeds that of the number in my bank account. The first time I walked in Dress, was quite the opposite feeling.
