How to Be a Fashion Icon

We all have women that our eyes glaze over at when we flip through our issue of People Magazine. Their clothes are always breathtaking and seem to convey their personality without even trying! They pair the most amazing and unexpected accessories together, all of which have been placed with perfection. Becoming a fashion icon might not take as much work as you think! There are many ways you can achieve this seemingly unreachable feat!

1. Knowing how to Dress is Key! Buy magazine such as Elle, InStyle, Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar. Get a sense of what you like and what could work in your every day life. This is different for everyone. Some women are able to express their vibrant personality and work, while others might be more fitted in a suit. Either situation, there is always a way to look glam no matter what!

2. Mix n' Match: It's OK to mix different styles. Preppy can be paired with subtle studded cuff if you're in the mood for a little edginess! Buy accessories that mix well with what you have. Don't over-do it! Less CAN be more. One over-sized item per outfit please! Don't do a chunky necklace and earrings that dangle to your shoulder. Stick with one!

3. Celebrities might seem to have it all; but I'll bet there is someone in your office, who's style you admire? Take tips from your friends, co-workers, siblings, or someone sitting besides you in the coffee shop. Notice their bold cocktail ring and try it for yourself.

4. As you get older, you might not want to admit it, but you probably swooned over things your mother wore when you were growing up. Think of what complemented her style and try to incorporate it into your own. I know that I personally owe much of my fashion sense to MY mother.

5. Get rid of things you don't wear. The rule of thumb is, if you haven't worn it in 2 seasons, you won't wear it. This is where consignment can help you! It might not be your style any longer, but I assure you that someone, is just discovering the boyfriend jean that you've had for years! Call today and make your appointment at Dress!

So Sassy in Stripes

When paired with the right pieces, stripes can really enhance your figure and keep you looking up-to-date. On the runways this season, designers were mixing wide and thin stripes or pairing stripes with florals; such matchups generally don't work for day-to-day looks. The key to wearing stripes in the real world is to always wear just one print matched with a solid. For example, a vertically striped blouse looks great with white trousers or jeans. Vertically striped pants or skirts can make you look taller and in style when worn with a solid-colored tee. For dresses, avoid horizontal stripes that widen your shape -- unless you have a boyish figure and need to create some curves.
You don't have to spend a fortune! Stripes look good on clothes in every price range. They're a chic kind of magic mojo! Stripes are nothing new. Sophia Loren, Ali MacGraw, and Demi Moore have all worn the look. Stop into Dress today and see our collection of pieces. You won't be disappointed!
